The 2008 Sacramento Valley Scottish
Games & Festival, an event that is a
great adventure and will be a magical
day for anyone interested in Scottish
and Celtic arts, culture, and history.
This event is hosted by the Caledonian
Club of Sacramento, a nonprofit
organization established in 1876.
This year we will be celebrating our
132nd Anniversary of sponsoring this fun
family event and we invite you to bring
your friends and family and join the
many people who enjoy our Festival every
year. Our Games Committee, Participants,
Competitors, Volunteers, and the
Fairgrounds staff work hard to ensure
that you and your family will have a
good time, and will want to return
again.
The weekend event encompasses athletic
events and competitions, historical
re-enactment presentations, travel and
culture talks, children’s activities,
and craft exhibits, Highland dancing and
Drum Major competitions, Scottish
animals, vendors for shopping and fare,
nearly nonstop musical concerts and
entertainment, and the grandeur of
hundreds of kilted bagpipers performing
in marching band parades and
competitions.
As you enter through the Castle Gate you
are instantly mesmerized by the sounds,
smells, and visions of Scottish and
Celtic culture. While you wander the
grounds, you will want to stop and
admire the Athletes competing in the
Caber Toss or Hammer Throw Contest. You
will be enchanted with the breathtaking
beauty of the Highland Dancers and
wonder at the performance skills of the
Drum Majors. The magnificent spectacle
of live Pipe Bands, marching in a
rainbow of kilts, is something that
shouldn’t be missed.
Our Historic Re-enactment groups,
Artisans, Lectures, Associations, and
Clans, relive for you the history of our
Scottish and Celtic ancestors and our
Whisky Seminar & Tasting event actually
gives you a taste of authentic Scottish
Whisky while learning the history of
this fine drink.
If you are interested in shopping, we
have many vendors selling Scottish and
Celtic crafts, clothing, jewelry, music,
books, pastries and much more. When you
get hungry or need a thirst quencher,
the selection of food vendors will be
sure to please everyone’s taste. Our
Land of Lads and Lassies, Children’s
Haggis Hurling contest and our Kiddie
Caber venues offer the children fun and
entertainment and provide the parents
with a little rest and relaxation time.
Country and Scottish Dancing, Fiddlers,
Harps, and live music from some of the
area’s finest groups and entertainers
should please everyone’s preference in
the Scottish and Celtic performing arts.
To top off Saturday night, our delicious
Ceilidh dinner and live music always has
a sell out crowd so get your tickets
early. Take advantage of the early
purchase of a ticket for the Ceilidh, as
well as admittance tickets for the
Festival itself, by using the Advance
Ticket Order Form located elsewhere on
the website.
The 4th annual Haggis Hurling contest
and our fun Bonnie Knees contest should
each attract a good sized crowd,
cheering on the competition. Be sure to
stop and visit our Scottish Show Animals
and Livestock, and watch a Frisbee Dog
demonstration that will amaze you. Back
this year are the beautiful Clydesdale
horses and our Sheep Dog demonstrations
will leave you in awe.
We hope that by the end of the day,
after you have experienced the magic of
Scottish and Celtic arts, culture, and
history you will remember to smile on
your way out, so that we will know you
had a good time at our event.
Please be sure to check back on the
website often as our 2008 Highland Games
information is continually being
updated. If you are in need of
information not available on our
website, please contact our webmaster by

We hope that we will see you at our
Highland Games the weekend of April
26th-27th, 2008.
